Women's political leadership is first and foremost about support — Kira Rudik at an event on women's political rights

Women's political leadership is a strategy for promoting democratic values and incredible support for initiatives. This was emphasized by the leader of the Golos party, vice-president of ALDE, MP Kira Rudik during the event «Women's Political Rights and Leadership Is the Key to Solving the Biggest Global Challenges of Our Time» on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

«Women's political leadership is first and foremost about support. It can be seen and felt, for example, during our demonstration in New York with the demand to expel the russian federation from the United Nations. This is also the support of our initiatives to help Ukrainian women who suffered directly due to the full-scale russian invasion, or who remained the only source of finances in their families due to the war», — emphasized the parliamentarian.

The event «Women's Political Rights and Leadership Is the Key to Solving the Biggest Global Challenges of Our Time» was organized by the Alliance Of Her platform on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Its goal is to show the world how important it is for democracies to promote women's political leadership. After all, this is not only a question of equality and justice but as a critical strategy for opposing autocratic and illiberal regimes.

«Women in politics is another strategy for promoting democratic values. The values that Ukraine is currently defending in a full-scale war with the russian aggressor. And I am sincerely grateful to the Alliance Of Her for what they do», — the leader of Golos emphasized.

The event was sponsored by the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium, the European Liberal Forum, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, and the Alliance Of Her. Among the issues discussed were: What strategies and initiatives have been successful in achieving more diverse political representation and what can be learned from them? What are the proven results of gender-equal political representation? What can be done at the global, regional and national levels to counter the rise of authoritarian and nationalist/populist movements that seek to oppress and disenfranchise women? How can men be allies in supporting more diverse political leadership?
