The UN needs changes, and the best way to start them is to exclude russia — Kira Rudik at the Global Citizen Awards in New York
There are legal mechanisms to exclude russia from the UN and it is quite possible to do so. This was emphasized by the leader of the Golos party, vice-president of ALDE, MP Kira Rudik during the Global Citizen Awards dinner, where she was present on behalf of the Atlantic Council.
«The UN needs changes, and the best way to start them is to exclude russia. Is it possible to legally exclude the russian federation from the UN? Yes. The General Assembly did not vote for russia's membership, moscow did not vote and did not ratify the UN Charter, and this document itself does not provide for any legal succession, only voting for new members», — emphasizes the leader of Golos.
In addition, russia systematically violates the principles on which the UN was built.
«How can a state that systematically violates the Organization's rules be a member of the UN? It is russia that started at least 14 wars, committed and continues to commit war crimes and genocide, and abuses the right of veto, effectively paralyzing the work of the UN Security Council. It's time to stop this», — the MP urges.
The Global Citizen Awards is an event during the week of the UN General Assembly designed to honor people who exemplify «global citizenship» for their unique contribution to the betterment of the world. The audience is government officials, diplomats, businessmen, civil society, and opinion leaders.
