The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE)

Kira Rudik
ALDE Council in Bucharest

ALDE — the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe — is a union of 70 liberal political parties in Europe. The ALDE parties are represented in the European Parliament by the third largest Renew group consisting of 102 MPs. I was elected ALDE Vice President in 2022, and I have the honor of being the first representative of a non-EU country in this position.

My goals of working at ALDE:
  • ensuring the interaction of liberal parties with Ukraine and promoting interests of Ukraine in the European Parliament;
  • representation of countries outside the EU (Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Iceland and Norway);
  • acceleration of the EU enlargement process (first of all, European integration of Ukraine);
  • advocacy for female leadership within the framework of the "Alliance of Her" program.
ALDE supports Ukraine

From the first day of the full-scale war, ALDE representatives have been supporting Ukraine and advocating for the provision of all necessary assistance, including heavy weapons, aircraft, tanks, and long-range missiles.

During 2022-2023, the liberal group Renew presented initiatives in the European Parliament regarding Ukraine:
  • on accelerating Ukraine's membership in the EU and NATO;
  • on recognition of russia as a sponsor of terrorism.
